Organizing the Fridge

Posted by: | Comments (0)

I’ve written posts in the past about organizing the fridge including the use of bins or containers to manage and corral items.  I found a brilliant use of Container Store multi purpose bins for the freezer from I Heart Organizing and I wanted to share it with you.  I think this is a great solution for all the Trader Joe’s appetizers I have stocked in my fridge, what about you?

Organizing Purses

Posted by: | Comments (0)

I don’t know why, but I have more purses and bags for the fall and winter then I do for the summer.  A purse organizer makes transferring bags a simple and painless process.  I happen to keep my purses in a cute little trunk with a seat, but there are so many great options out there and I’ve recently stumbled upon a few that I’d like to share.

First up – a purse organizer.  I love these from Divide and Conquer and I gave them as gifts for Christmas last year.

I’ve featured the modular hauler before, but I’m using yet AGAIN on vacation and I’m still finding new ways to use it.

The Modular Hauler features separate zippered compartments to store…well.. anything and everything.

Our vacation this year was a road trip and I packed a compartment for each of my kids with their clothing and one for shoes and toys.  We stayed at multiple locations, so upon arrival I gave them their cube and they unpacked.  I could then use the emptied cube for grocery shopping, the beach, laundry, day trips and various other errands.  They are incredibly versatile, durable and sturdy.

I’ve also used them to pack for air travel.  Simply pack each cube and then toss in a duffel bag.  At the end of your journey the clothing is already separated and easy to find.

We’ve had ours for about seven years and I can tell you that it has been worth the investment.  I have not been paid a dime to write any of this – I just love the product.  I’ve linked to it via the Container Store below, but you can also find it at a number of other places, including Amazon.com.

Perfectly Savvy Finds – Smart Store

Posted by: | Comments (2)

Every once in a while the Container Store really hits one out of the park.  I love it when they come up with a solution that is so simple and clever that I actually say “WOW” out loud.  The new Smart Store System is a clever way to keep art supplies, beauty supplies or other items that need to be together….but separate.  Take a look at the examples below and let me know what you think.

The system is on sale right now for the Happy Organized Home Sale, but I don’t see the actual sale end date on the site.

Outdoor Toy Storage

Posted by: | Comments (8)

Thankfully spring has finally sprung and this means that the kids are outside playing and enjoying the sun and mild temperatures.  I have an equation for you;

spring + kids outside = toys everywhere

I hope my finds below will give you some ideas about what to do with the shovels, pails, balls, bats and other toys that accumulate in the yard.  I have a couple at a higher price point and then two more affordable options.  The deck box from Sears is very affordable and it has a seat on the top that could be dressed up with cushions to make it incredibly versatile.

As a reminder, I have a giveaway going on with The Nutter Sisters.  You have until the end of the day on Monday, April 18th to enter, so click over and comment for your chance to win a $20.00 gift card to the Container Store.

Congrats to our contest winner, barefootliz.  I’ve contacted her and she’ll be receiving a $20.00 gift card to the Container Store.

Hi everyone,

I was quite honored when Helen Nutter of The Nutter Sisters asked me to do a guest post.  It is one of my favorite blogs and I thought perhaps it would be a great opportunity for my first giveaway.  I have one $20.00 gift card to the Container Store and YOU could be the winner.  Here is what you need to do;

1.  Visit my post at the Nutter Sisters and then become a follower over there.

2.  Come back to the Imperfect Home and become a follower.

3.  Leave a comment below about an organizing topic you’d like me to cover or a part of your home that might be “organizationally challenged”.

At the end of the contest period I’ll use random.org to select the lucky winner.  You must live in the USA.  Please only one entry per person.  I’ll contact the winner via email.

Good luck and I look forward to reading your comments.

Best,

I guarantee you will love my Savvy Find this week.  We all love to have an organized refrigerator, right?  I was flipping through the spring organization sale flyer from the Container Store and I came across the Fridge Binz. They are perfect for keeping all of your items neatly organized in the refrigerator.  I especially love the wide trays that stack.  Genius!

Clean & Organized Makeup

Posted by: | Comments (3)

Spring cleaning is just around the corner, but there are a few things that you can get do to get a jump start on the process.  Begin now by weeding through all of your cosmetics and toiletries.  Pay particular attention to make certain your makeup brushes are either cleaned properly or replaced.  Makeup can be germ central, so give it a good cleaning.

1.  Brushes need to be cleaned or replaced.  I like to use I.D. Well cared for by Bare Escentuals once per month, (link below).  You can also use any mild detergent on a good brush.

2.  Basic guidelines say that powders can be good up to 2 years.  Lipsticks 1-2 years but if it smells funny or rancid – toss it.  If you use a foundation then it probably won’t last more than 18 months.  Pencils and liners last  3 years if you sharpen them regularly.  Mascara needs to be rotated out about every 4 months.  Nail polish should last about a year.

3.  If you haven’t used it recently then you probably won’t – so let it go!

4.  I found a great resource for homemade brush cleaners and brush tips on Tipnut.

The Perfect Hanger

Posted by: | Comments (2)

I just performed a little closet face-lift and I couldn’t be more pleased.  My closet was not in bad shape.  I had all of my clothes relatively organized.  All of my sweaters, tops and blouses were arranged by color and very easy to find.  However, I still had the clunky white plastic hangers and so it just always looked messy to me.  I’ve had my sights set on these little Huggable Hangers from the Container Store, but they seemed a little pricey.  I found a very similar hanger at HomeGoods and they were less expensive.  I’m thrilled.  An inexpensive way to spruce up my closet.  Believe it or not, I created more room by just changing out the hangers and the uniform look that it gives really makes my closet look more organized.

Perfectly Savvy Finds

The area behind a door is prime real estate.  Consider using the area behind one of your doors as a place to put your keys, mail, phone and other items that you might need when you jet out of the house.  A hook for your purse or keys is an easy way to keep them in plain sight and right where you need them as you are stepping at the door.
