Perfectly Savvy Finds- 1000 Memories

Posted by: | Comments (4)

I have a fun find for you this week to share your old photo memories.  I’ve done posts in the past about how to digitize old family photos but this one  is a little different.  The ShoeBox for IPhone 1000 memories app is all about ease in capturing and sharing your old photos.  This is NOT about the quality but more about having fun.  I see this app as a great way to get ready for an upcoming birthday party or sharing old memories quickly with your family.

The app was very easy to set up.  Capturing the photos and sharing is literally a 10 second process.  Try it out, have fun and let me know how you are using Shoebox 1000.  There is a short YouTube video below to show you how it all works.

Your Savvy Finds this week feature a couple of fun, (yes fun) cleaning tips.  The first is a quick tip for cleaning out your dishwasher via our friends at Real Simple.  I also happen to be a HUGE fan of cleaning with vinegar and I came across a post from Reader’s Digest with 150+ uses for vinegar.  Happy cleaning!

Clean a dishwasher with Kool-Aid = yep.  Real Simple magazine posted this fun little cleaning solution for a dishwasher.  Just empty one packet of the Lemonade flavor in the detergent cup and run the dishwasher empty.  The citric acid in the lemonade will wipe out the lime stains.

.

And now for 150+ uses for vinegar via Reader’s Digest – I am amazed that some of these will work.  Check out page 4 of the list to read about soothing sore throats, reducing the severity of bruises and reducing dandruff.

I’m not certain that I even need to write anything about the Puzzleboard from OOOMS because the pictures tell the story.  How brilliant and cool –  I WANT THEM!  A fun addition if you like to entertain and I love that they can link together to be used as a cutting board or even a serving centerpiece if you are not serving wine.

What’s the Secret?

Posted by: | Comments (1)

Whenever I’m asked about my business, I always receive a comment such as, oh, your house must be so organized or how do I begin?  Here’s a big secret…. PURGE.  Even though my home may be well organized, I still have to go through drawers, closets, cupboards and cabinets periodically to clean and purge.

I spent part of the day working with my girls yesterday and I was really pleased to see that they were making great decisions on their own. I have been working on sorting and organizing with them so that they can clean and maintain their room on their own.  Do they need my help?  Yes!  However, they are doing quite well on their own.  It was also fun. Giggles were high on the list and no frustration allowed.

1.  We sorted doll clothes and they were able to donate a number of items.  They also worked on making certain all the shoes had a partner, accessories were together and the system made sense to THEM.  If kids don’t understand how things are organized or categorized, then they won’t be able to help maintain.

2.  I asked them to donate two stuffed toys each, and they produced about 6 each.

3.  They understood that to make room for all the new toys, they needed to release some of the old.

I also worked in my kitchen.  I went through each drawer and cupboard to purge and clean.  Items accumulate and the big secret is that you need to find the time to weed through it.  Some quick tips for the kitchen:

1.  Utilize glass and transparent containers instead of the original packaging.  Your cabinets will look more cohesive and you can see how much product is left.

2.  Drawer organizers make a huge difference.  Keep like utensils together and purge gadgets that you do not use.

3.  Try to keep your countertops clear of clutter.

4.  For tips on your fridge, see my post from last year.

5.  Don’t overbuy!

Schedule some time in your calendar this week for a little organizing maintenance and see what you can accomplish.

Perfectly Savvy Finds

Hello my Savvy Friends!   I’ve come up with some fun little finds that just might help you organize your summer travels.  As a side note, many sites are having travel sales right now so it is a good time to save a little on new packing gear.

  • Let’s begin with what I consider to be a travel ESSENTIAL, the packing cube.  I have a full set from E-Bags.com, but Eagle Creek also carries a nice line and I noticed they were on sale at Sierra Trading.  I use my cubes to separate my kids’ clothing so that it is very easy to unpack.  I can’t say enough about how versatile the cubes are and I consider them a must for my family travel.
  • Next, shoe bags.  Of course you can use plastic bags, but I do love this cute little pick from Tumi.
  • The Quickload carry-on bag from Bean looks brilliant.  This may be a new addition to our travel repertoire before our summer vacation.
  • Jewelry portfolio = must have.
  • Eagle Creek Mother Load Suitcase.  This suitcase looks amazing.  Has anyone tried it?
  • If a car trip is in your plans for the summer, I highly recommend the MountainSmith Modular Hauler.  We use our hauler quite frequently.  It is perfect for clothing, toys or other essentials.  It is highly durable and versatile.

Click on the image below and it will become interactive so that you can see where I found everything.

Perfectly Savvy Finds

I hope that all of you had a chance to read my post earlier this week about cleaning your car.  Your Perfectly Savvy Finds this week are all items that will help you get your car in order and ready for spring.

1.  Let’s begin at the top with a fun little organizer that could be used to store sun lotion, bug spray and other summer essentials.  The handle on top will make it easy to transport back and forth and the bright pink will make it easy to see and remember.

2.  The all important trash can.  I like this option because it has a nice sturdy base so that it wont tip and it is easy to get the bags in and out.

3.  The bright flowery bin would be a good solution for storing car essentials or toys.  Easy to carry back and forth from house to car.

4.  The red tool box can store a first aid kit or other must haves.

5.  I love the green and brown totes from the Container Store.  Perfect for toting everything to and from the car in complete style.

6.  The blue/turquoise bins are perfect for storing toys/books and other kid items.  Easy to pick-up and stack away.
