Thankful Tree
Posted by: | CommentsI love the holiday season, but it seems like every year the stores begin pushing the holiday “junk” even earlier than the year before. I want my girls to receive a different message. I don’t want them to think about what they want, I want them to be thankful for what they have.
I believe that an easy way to begin and continue that conversation is to place a thankful tree on the dining room table. I let the girls come up with their own ideas, cross my fingers and hope for the best. This is a great year for our little thankful tree. My youngest has graduated from being thankful for coffee cake last year, to being thankful for grandma, her sister and mom & dad this year. Progress!
I’ve created a Pinterest page with many fabulous thankful trees. Please stop by and find a little inspiration to create your own. I’d love to hear about some of your traditions heading into the holiday season, so please share them.

Balancing Act
Posted by: | CommentsI’ve gone off the grid lately. I’ve really had a difficult time balancing blogging, Facebook, Twitter and everything else. So do you know what I did about it? I just stopped and took a break and the world didn’t come crashing in. My family and work life has been incredibly busy and something had to give.
My greatest concern has been that I haven’t been able to read or discover new content to keep me inspired. Inspiration is really the main reason that I began my blog and I need to get back to that place. I recently listened to an interview with David Carr on Fresh Air. He put into words exactly what I was thinking and and it really hit home.
“My persistent concern is that I’ll become so busy producing media that I won’t consume enough of it,” he says. “So that what I produce becomes less and less rich over time.” – David Carr in an interview with Terry Gross
So how to I get back on track? The fabulous Shelley Ellen from I’m Still Standing is discussing weekly lessons from the ProBlogger 31 Days to a better blog. I love her supportive style and really enjoy the way she presents the lessons. While working on the challenge this week, I discovered that I navigate to the cooking and recipe sections of magazines.
Out of a challenge comes inspiration. I am going to begin a new series where I review supposedly easy and family friendly recipes that I find in magazines and share them with you. This will not only at a little boost to my blog, but will add some flair to family dinner repertoire. First on my list will be something from Everyday Food, so stay tuned. If you have a recipe that you’d like me to review and try out, then please send me a note.
In the meantime, please do check out the interview with David Carr and stop by Shelley Ellen’s I’m Still Standing for a little inspiration.
Fabric Headboard
Posted by: | CommentsI’ve been looking at ways to update our headboard on a dime. I’ve never really been a fan of headboards but when we purchased a bedroom set it was part of the deal. I immediately removed the footboard because I hate furniture overload. Now I’m considering another option to having a headboard. I really like the idea of using fabric because it is a simple and clean look. I thought you might like a little inspiration too.
Right now this option from Martha Stewart is my favorite

Glass Jars
Posted by: | CommentsI’ve been using glass containers for food storage in my kitchen and I love the change. The glass jars work well because you can easily see what is inside, they look pretty, are relatively inexpensive and they are easy to label. Take items such as cereal, baking supplies, popcorn and pastas out of their packaging and store them in a clear or glass jar. I store kids snacks such as Goldfish in a jar and put in a little scoop to make it easier, (and more fun) to get them out. Glass containers are an easy and inexpensive way to spruce up and organize a countertop or cabinet. Here is a little inspiration;
The Container Store offers this very inexpensive option and mixing the sizes works well.
You may not even need the label on the front, but consider putting one on the back with a date so you know when a product will expire
Here is an example of how glass containers can be used in a cabinet
4 Tips for Bedroom Organization
Posted by: | CommentsOne of my readers asked for ideas to organize and contain bedroom clutter. Her husband’s shirts are bursting from the dresser drawers and the room is full of furniture.
The bedroom, of all places in your home should be a place where you can go to relax and find a little peace. If your bedroom is cluttered or chaotic, then it can be impossible to begin and end your day with a feeling of calm. Let’s take a looks at 4 easy tips for clearing the space and keeping things easy to find.
1. SORT through your clothing and accessories. Keep out of season clothing in storage, either under the bed or in a basement. Rotating through your clothing can be time consuming, but it allows the opportunity to get rid of clothing you don’t wear and reduces what you have in your dresser drawers.
2. THINK about placement of clothing as you return it to the drawers. Shirts go together and place them by color to make them easier to find. For example, all short sleeved blue shirts belong together. Utilize drawer organizers for socks, shirts and underwear to separate clothing. I’ve assembled a nice collection for you at Pinterest.
3. EXAMINE your room to see if you have the right furniture for the job. Some furniture is big, bulky and does not have efficient storage space. Adding big furniture to a room may not be the right solution for your space. Eliminate two bulky pieces and replace with one more efficient solution. Armoires can be incredibly versatile pieces to consider as you look at your space. I have some examples below of using furniture in new ways. The armoire for accessories is very clever and shows just how versatile certain furniture can be.
4. CLEVER spots for organizing your things do exist. Under the bed, behind the door, hooks shelf dividers can be utilized to make items easy to find.
I always like to leave you with a little inspiration to begin your project.

Going clockwise, I’ve found some wonderful little examples of how to use the space for pants, blazers and backpacks.
