Organizing Purses

Posted by: | Comments (0)

I don’t know why, but I have more purses and bags for the fall and winter then I do for the summer.  A purse organizer makes transferring bags a simple and painless process.  I happen to keep my purses in a cute little trunk with a seat, but there are so many great options out there and I’ve recently stumbled upon a few that I’d like to share.

First up – a purse organizer.  I love these from Divide and Conquer and I gave them as gifts for Christmas last year.

The area behind a door is prime real estate.  Consider using the area behind one of your doors as a place to put your keys, mail, phone and other items that you might need when you jet out of the house.  A hook for your purse or keys is an easy way to keep them in plain sight and right where you need them as you are stepping at the door.

I published a post earlier this week with a few simple steps to help you get started on organizing your kitchen cupboards and shelves.  Your Savvy Finds this week feature some wonderful tools to help you get the job done.

Purchasing these items won’t give you a magically organized space.  You must do the work of editing and organizing first.  The Savvy Finds below will help you maintain your organized cupboard as long as you don’t over buy and you find a proper home for everything.

Happy Friday my Savvy Friends.  This week I’d like you to think about utilizing the space behind your doors.  I have some great little finds for over the door mounted storage that might give you a little inspiration.

Check out the finds from The Door Organizer.com.  They have some fantastic ideas for the space behind doors.  I’ve never used the product, so I can’t personally recommend it, but it is definitely worth a look.  I have two examples from their site below.

Going clockwise, I’ve found some wonderful little examples of how to use the space for pants, blazers and backpacks.

There are many uses for over the door storage.  I challenge you to clean up and clean out a little area of your home this week by using the space behind one of your doors.

Happy Friday!
Your Savvy Finds this week feature some organizing options for your many pairs of Jimmy Choo’s, (or in my case it is more like Jimmy Chew, Clarks and Dansko). These options will work for any budget, so corral them and make it easy to find them.

First up is a cloth organizer that can hang in your closet.  I am NOT a fan of using these for shoes because they get dirty and are then hard to clean.  However, these are fantastic for storing accessories like scarves, purses and belts.

Next up is the over the door shoe corral.  This option features a buyer beware.  Make certain it is sturdy.  Also, the cloth options are very difficult to clean, sometimes rip and often don’t hold shoes well.  I like the option below because of how it supports the shoe facing inward.

The 3 tier holder is wonderful.  It takes up very little spaces and accommodates a large number of shoes.  A two thumbs up from yours truly on this find.

As we continue clockwise you’ll see a little under the bed option.  I think that under bed storage for out of season shoes is a wonderful use of space.  Clear shoe cubbies would also work for under the bed storage.

Next up a sleek little shoe cabinet that can discreetly store your shoes and would be easy to wipe out.

Last but not least, if you do have some high-end heels the drop front shoe box will keep your “kicks” in great shape.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Kristin

Perfectly Savvy Finds

I hope that all of you had a chance to read my post earlier this week about cleaning your car.  Your Perfectly Savvy Finds this week are all items that will help you get your car in order and ready for spring.

1.  Let’s begin at the top with a fun little organizer that could be used to store sun lotion, bug spray and other summer essentials.  The handle on top will make it easy to transport back and forth and the bright pink will make it easy to see and remember.

2.  The all important trash can.  I like this option because it has a nice sturdy base so that it wont tip and it is easy to get the bags in and out.

3.  The bright flowery bin would be a good solution for storing car essentials or toys.  Easy to carry back and forth from house to car.

4.  The red tool box can store a first aid kit or other must haves.

5.  I love the green and brown totes from the Container Store.  Perfect for toting everything to and from the car in complete style.

6.  The blue/turquoise bins are perfect for storing toys/books and other kid items.  Easy to pick-up and stack away.

Happy Friday my Savvy Friends. Today your Perfectly Savvy Finds are fun yet useful desk organizers.
Two that I’d specifically love to point out are the Basic Desktop Organizer from Onlineorganizing.com and the Small Desktop station from the Container Store. The Basic Desktop Organizer is great for those that need to have “physical paper” as a reference. It keeps it contained, handy and easy to flip through. The Small Desktop Organizer is great because it is slim but also has just the right sized compartments for essentials.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Have you ever asked yourself any of the following questions?
  • How do I begin to organize and where to I start?
  • Why am I so overwhelmed?
  • How to I maintain what I’ve done?

Take a deep breath. I’m a professional organizer and I ask myself the very same questions. Life happens and we all get overwhelmed.

I’m constantly working on areas of my own home to make my life run a little more efficiently. I consider my home to be a laboratory where I can work on INEXPENSIVE solutions that might benefit my clients. I’m going to tackle projects in my home and document them in my blog. Hopefully this will give you inspiration to begin your own organization projects or you may be able to implement my ideas in your own home. I’m always open to questions and suggestions.

Let’s begin with a small project.
 The Homework Station
Where do your kids put their papers when they come home from school?  If you currently have a system, is it working?  If not, what is the hurdle?  Now is the perfect time to evaluate your after school routine and tweak  the processes that are not working so well.

I have a VERY small space. I’m used to it and it forces me to organize and clean frequently. My three and six year old needed a place to put their school papers after arriving home. I never have time to look at notes, homework and projects right away and I needed a solution that they could handle all on their own. I ended up with a very simple solution and it has been working beautifully. My kids can unpack their backpacks on their own and I can process all the paperwork when I have time to focus.

The girls come home and each has a slot for their papers. So simple that my three year old can do it! It is also a two way street. Outgoing papers can be put back in and then loaded to backpacks in the morning. This little table tucks in the corner behind my door so it takes up very little space. The other important note is that I spent under $50.00 for everything. Of course I could have found a slightly less expensive route, but with my small space I like to choose colors and furniture items wisely to keep a cohesive look. This little splash of red ties in with the rest of my livingroom.

Things to think about if a “homework station” is on your to do list;

  • Try to keep it by the backpacks, coats etc… so that the kids can unload immediately after school.
  • Keep it simple. Don’t expect little ones to sort too many items. Give them one designated box.
  • Make it routine. You might have to remind them to use the systems for a couple of weeks. It takes time to make it a habit.
  • You will still need to oversee the process and make certain that you are doing your part to look through papers and process in a timely fashion.
  • Don’t be afraid to shop around and look at a few stores for ideas and inspiration.
  • It is okay to try a new routine if the old established routine is not working.

Good luck and let me know what works in your home.
