Perfectly Savvy Finds
Posted by: | CommentsI wrote a post a couple of weeks ago about sending holiday greeting cards because it seems that the trend to send is not what it once was. I must admit it makes me sad. I’m a huge fan of technology and streamlining, but I also love having a personal touch to special occasions. While I love receiving Facebook birthday wishes from all of my friends, nothing beats a personal card in the mail. Perhaps a savvy little organizer like this will make it easier (and more fun) to send a personal note. Just think about how much fun it is to receive a handwritten note and I think a beautiful card container like this example from Adventures in Crafting would make it just as much fun to send.

Perfectly Savvy Finds
Posted by: | CommentsWho gets excited about a bath mat? Well, me I guess. I recently purchased Sleep Innovations The Mat and I’m a little thrilled with it. My girls said it is like stepping on a cloud and it dries very quickly. I must admit, I do love the little spring in the mat when I step out of the shower. Easy to clean and a Savvy Find for sure.

Organizing Art Supplies
Posted by: | CommentsI wrote a post last week about Organizing Art Projects that kids bring home from school. Now that school is out for the summer you’ll need a way to keep all of little Frida Kahlo’s supplies in order around the house. My greatest piece of advice is to limit options. Give your child 10 markers instead of 50. Consider 4 colors of Play Doh instead of 10. A wonderful creation can come from a box of 25 crayons…you get the point. If children are given too many options then they can become overwhelmed and the focus is no longer on creating, but on navigating all of the supplies.
I give my kids a variety of options, but in limited amounts. For example, I created a toolbox bead kit with various choices and then I replenish or fill their toolkit as needed. This allows my girls to have plenty of options for beading without becoming overwhelmed or creating more mess than jewelry. It also helps to cut down on the cleanup time and that equals less frustration for mom and kids.
I have a few more ideas for you below for containing artwork clutter. You can also refer to my previous posts for more ideas on how to organize art supplies including some out of the box ideas, learning to edit with a small art caddy and the Tell Tale Tote.

Beach Packing List -Welcome The Nutter Sisters
Posted by: | Comments![]() |
I am very excited to have a guest post from Helen Nutter of the Nutter Sisters. If you have not visited their site then YOU MUST. It is witty, funny and worth the time. She has shared her fabulous Beach List with us – so please enjoy!
The Nutter Sisters: Beach Packing List
Yeah! It’s that time again…time for me to get my beach stuff ready. Thankfully, long gone are the days when my mother and aunts would drag our playpens and such onto the beach. I keep my beach list short and sweet. In fact, each year I refine my list to make our daily trek to the beach simple and efficient…I have long subscribed to the KISS principle.
Here is the list of items I bring to the beach. Hope it helps make your summer as fun and stress-free as possible. Enjoy!!
STUFF THAT STAYS IN VEHICLE ALL SUMMER
- Beach Cart I love my beach cart! I can pack it and unpack it within a matter of minutes. My rule of thumb being if it doesn’t fit into or onto the cart it stays behind.
- Quarters For the parking meters (We save them throughout the winter).
- Beach Chairs For years I had been on the hunt for the perfect beach chair and found this chair on sale during the off season. We love the footrest and the chair can be carried as a backpack which we fill with the items listed below.
- Sunscreen & Chap Stick We put sunscreen on at home. I can’t stand chasing kids on beach with a palm full of sunscreen!
- Ziploc Bags I keep bags in every size and stock up when I see them go on sale. I put everything in Ziploc bags it seems. I put my beach book in one; I put magazines in one; I put my iPhone in one; and you always need one for rocks and seashells.
- Reading Material Vanity Fair is my favorite magazine to read at the beach. I devour every page. I also will bring along my summer beach book.
- Hair Clips and Elastics I keep a baggy full of these; I can not stand having my hair whip in my face on those windy beach days.
- Beach Towels Rolled and folded into the beach chairs-1 per person.
- Change of Clothes We change out of wet suits at beach (behind towels of course) and put wet suits in Ziploc bags (of course).
- Beach Toys Frisbee, Boogie Boards, Pail and shovels, (baggy of plastic utensils: we are into building sand castles and they are very useful), Bocce Set (our latest addiction).
STUFF I PACK EACH MORNING
Beach Cooler
- Ice My son and I love to eat ice. It’s perfect for the beach and helps keep the other food in cooler cold. Oh, there is another benefit…When I chew ice it drives my sister Alice crazy!
- Frozen Grapes Sort goes along with the ice thing, but at the end of the beach day the grapes aren’t so gross. Helps keep them edible for the whole day!
- Snyder’s of Hanover White Corn Tortilla Chips I divide the bag into snack bags (eliminates the sandy hand ruining the whole bag thing-Yuck!).
- Mini Babybel Cheese They’re easy and self contained and healthy.
- Sandwiches We love peanut butter and jelly (I make them ahead for the week)…remember the KISS principle!
- Big Plastic Cups We each have our own cup and use it for everything: drinks, ice, fruit, snacks, etc.
- Water
THE MOST IMPORTANT ITEM
- Power Washer I bought this “As Seen on TV” item a few years ago at Walgreen’s and I am telling you if I had to sell everything I own this might be the last thing to go!! The power jet is perfect for rinsing beach chairs, beach cart, and kids feet after a day at the beach. I could write a whole post on how useful this item is to me!

Posted by: | CommentsLet’s continue along the road to spring cleaning bliss and tackle the linen closest. I did a post last year giving ideas on how to clean up and organize your closet. This year I’m going to show you some wonderful photos of organized linen closets and hopefully you’ll see something that might work for your home! Remember a few simple tips as you get started;
1. Consider only having two sets of sheets for each bed. One on the bed and one in the closet.
2. Your linen closet is not a beauty supply store. There is no need to stock up on EVERYTHING. Keep a spare soap, toothpaste or toothbrush but you don’t need 10 of everything!
3. A few spare towels are fine, 20 are probably not necessary. Weed through, find the tattered towels and use them for rags.
Here is a great example using a few of the tips I discussed in my previous post. Neat tricks like rolling towels and using bins to separate items. I love how they’ve used towel bars on the door to utilize all the space efficiently.

If you take a good look you’ll notice that this closet is not very deep. However, they found slender storage bins to fit the space and the whimsical way they’ve labeled them makes the closet “pop”.

Here is a great solution for an open closet. The beautiful baskets hide the contents but the open tops make it easy to see what’s inside.
