Perfectly Savvy Finds

Your Savvy Finds this week feature a couple of sites that I think you might find useful.

The first, Brandkarma.com is a site dedicated to helping everyone make better brand choices and influence brand behavior.  The site allows for users to rate their customer experience with a brand in the following areas;

  • The Planet
  • Customers
  • Employees
  • Suppliers
  • Investors
Here is a direct link to their FAQ page that will explain more about how the site functions.  Give it a try and let me know what you think.  I like the idea behind it, I guess everything depends upon the integrity of those posting.
The next site on my savvy list might be familiar to my followers in the midwest, but I suspect it will be a new resource for all of my other readers.  Byerly’s is an upscale grocery store in the Minneapolis area and I recently discovered that they have a very useful website.  There are over 2,000 recipes to browse as well as food and wine guides featuring everythingfrom  a guide to fresh herbs to holiday wine pairings.  Don’t miss the food safety links or cooking videos.
Take care!
Kristin
As a reminder,I’d greatly appreciate it if you could stop by Circle of Mom’s and give my little blog a vote for best Home Management blog.  You can vote one time each day, so please swing by again if you have a minute.  THANKS!

Perfectly Savvy Finds

Posted by: | Comments (0)

I have two savvy finds for you today but both with the same purpose, to eliminate junk mail.

The first, 41 Pounds, stops your junk mail and catalogs for a fee of 41 dollars, (it covers you for 5 years).  $15 of the $41.00 goes to a charity that you choose from their site and then they do the work of contacting various mail services to remove your address.  They will also contact magazines and other bulk mailers on your behalf.  I’ve heard great things about this service.

The next site, Catalog Choice, is a free service but the user has to do more of the work to remove unwanted mail.  I’ve used this service and did find it easy but it does take a little time and effort.  My junk mail was significantly reduced.

Two great options so that you can do your part to reduce the amount of paper and junk that clutters your home and our environment.

Your Savvy Find this week is a website that you’ll spend a ton of time on….at least I have.  If you have plans to redecorate or remodel a room, then the My Deco site will be incredibly helpful.  The site puts fantastic design tools right at your fingertips. Create a moodboard or trick out a 3-d design with the click of a mouse.  A warning that you should set a timer when using the site because an hour goes quickly!

Perfectly Savvy Finds

Your Savvy Find this week is a website that I “Stumbled Upon”.  My husband will probably NOT be happy that I’ve found the Family Handman.  There are a number of DIY projects on the site that have my head spinning with ideas.  The site has everything from kitchen organization ideas to repair and maintenance.  Right now I’m LOVING the tiles underneath the kitchen sink.  Simple, brilliant and it of course never crossed my mind.  Make certain to check out his ideas for tool storage – there is a Father’s Day idea in there somewhere even if it is a subscription to the magazine.  I hope you enjoy the site – let me know what project it inspires in your home.

I have a little different Savvy Find for you this week; a recipe.  This delish idea comes courtesy of Whole Living Magazine by Martha Stewart.  I tried to find it online to link directly to it, but it does not appear to be on her site.  The recipe uses the Trader Joe’s Gyoza Potstickers and because I usually have a bag in my freezer, I was excited to stumble across it in the magazine.

Dumpling Soup

1.  Saute 1 diced onion, 2 diced carrots, 1 sliced celery stalk and 4 oz. sliced mushrooms in 2 Tbsp. olive oil until tender.  2.  Add 5 1/2 cups low sodium chicken stock, 2 cups water and 1 bay leaf; bring to a boil.  3.  Add 1/2 bag Gyoza Potstickers; simmer 6 minutes.  Season with salt and pepper and add 2 Tbsp. chopped fresh parsley.

Simple and yummy.  You gotta love Martha.

Perfectly Savvy Finds – Ikea site

Posted by: | Comments (1)

Are you looking for organizing and or furniture ideas?  Do you have a room that needs help but you are not certain where to begin?  Go to the Ikea website.  I had not been on in a while and they’ve added some fantastic features.  You can look at rooms and design examples for inspiration but it does so much more.  The photos then progress in some cases to give you more ideas of what is possible.  Click Here is an example with a toddler room.  Once on the site, click the first photo and then click the plus sign by the little girl.  It shows a cute little reading nook that transforms into a workspace.  Completely wonderful and clever.  I also love the workspace ideas.  Have fun exploring and I hope you are inspired.

I love that my Mom makes attempts to use the computer.  We Skype frequently so that she can see and talk to my kids.  However, she is afraid to branch out and try new things and I’m thinking that teachparentstech.org might be just the site to help her become more adventurous.

Begin by filling in a short survey about where your parent needs a little tutorial and you’ll then be able to send them a video link with instructions.  Hopefully it will be just the boost they need to gain a little confidence on the computer.
