Product Review – The Shower Shelf

Posted by: | Comments (0)

There are some truly innovative space saving products on the market and the Shower Shelf is certainly high on the list.

The Shower Shelf is stain and slip resistent shelf that slides right on a towel rack in your tub or shower area.  This is a perfect solution for an apartment or rental because there are holes to drill and no suction cups.  Installation is really as simple as sliding it over your existing towel rack.

The shelf is incredibly sturdy and has slots to hang loofahs along with holes to hang razors or other shower items.  Your existing towel bar remains completely functional to hang washcloths, towels or other items and you gain shelf space for shampoo, conditioner and soaps.

The Shower Shelf solves the problem of bottles cluttering the sides of the tub and makes cleaning easier because you don’t have to move everything to wipe down the shower.  Simple and brilliant.

I actually think they should market the shelf to hotels because there is never enough room to put your things when you travel.  I like that it made my shower towel bar functional.  I really only use mine to dry washcloths and now it has been transformed into something I can really use!

If you would like to try it out for yourself, they are offering my readers $5.00 off if you use the code savvyspaces5 at checkout.

I was compensated for this post with the product to try from the Shower Shelf. All opinions, as always, are completely my own.

End Table DIY

Posted by: | Comments (2)

I hope you don’t mind if I share a little DIY project today.  I have two end tables that I love…no hate….no love…no hate.  Okay, let’s clarify;  I love the shape, size and the way it functions in my small space.  I hate the scratched and boring top.

Our little DIY project was very simple and it cost absolutely nothing.  I found some old calendars that we used for art around the house and my hubby cut them to fit the table top.   A little glue and Modge Podge later…. Well, let me know what you think.  We love the change and it really helps to brighten the room.  It also makes the first cup of coffee in the morning just a little happier.

I love Etsy.  Although it is becoming more mainstream, I still feel like I can purchase something out of the ordinary and I also love supporting small business owners.  Your savvy find this week is meant to encourage you to swing by Etsy to find valentines instead of buying them at the store.

I was able to purchase Valentine’s Day cards for my girls to distribute in their classes and the designers had them in my inbox within a couple of hours.  They were already personalized, (saving even more time on my end).  A simple print and cut later, we were done.

Printables on Etsy are also a great way to spruce up your artwork.  I recently purchase a printable for my kitchen and had it printed on heavy stock at Kinkos.  One recycled frame later – I’m done.

Here are some of my favorite Etsy vendors that send printables.

Holiday greeting cards – to send or not to send, that is the question.  Many people have stopped sending the annual holiday card for some very noble reasons.  I’m usually first on board to streamline and simplify, but admittedly not when it comes to the holiday cards.  I really enjoy receiving them.  I love receiving a card from family that I rarely see or just the excitement of getting a beautiful card in the mail around the holidays.

I save the cards for one year, packing them away with my decorations.  I pull them out the following year when we put up the decorations and go through them once before tossing them aside.  I sat with my girls today and we went through all of our cards from last year and it was really special.  I also keep one of our family cards with the decorations so the girls can go through and see how they’ve changed from year to year.

I completely understand why some choose to no longer send the cards, I just want you to know that I miss receiving them.  I miss your updates and seeing your beautiful families.  I still love the idea and the sentiment behind them.

How do you feel about it?

Label It and Keep It Fresh…. or Cute

Posted by: | Comments (1)

Grilling season is in full swing and my freezer fills with chicken, burgers and other meat ready for a little sizzle.  I’m usually in a hurry when I return from the grocery so I need labels that are handy and easy to use so that I can prep the meat for the freezer and mark the date.

I love these easy labels from Martha Stewart.  It is as simple as writing the contents and circling the date.  Just print the labels on adhesive backed paper, print and cut.  You can keep them right on the fridge in a cute little magnetic bin from the Container Store.

Summer is also a time of projects, travel and falling out of routine.  Having some easy to use labels handy can help keep some of the chaos under control.

Better Homes and Gardens has a number of cute and customizable labels.  You must register on the site to download them but it was quick and painless.  Simply fill in the information and then print on adhesive backed paper, or print a blank sheet and write as you go.

I recently picked up a couple packs of Treasures labels by Shabby Chic at Michaels to label bins in my Girls’ room.  They are incredibly inexpensive and so cute.  I’ve used them to label bins of undergarments and socks.

Perfectly Savvy Finds

Earlier this week I did a post on cleaning appliances. I had a question from one of my readers about how to keep the film of grease or dust that magically appears on infrequently used appliances. Of course the easy answer would be to get the items that you do not utilize often into a cupboard or closet. Another approach would be to wipe them down frequently as you do your countertops. Yet another solution would be to purchase some appliance covers. These handy kitchen helpers are an easy way to keep your appliances clean, shiny and ready to work. There are a number of generic examples from Kitchen Aid, but I also found a couple of very cute options on Etsy and have included the links below.

Have a great weekend everyone!
